While Sarah was contemplating whether or not she got the worst end of the deal, Jareth was stuck in a meeting outside their kingdom and she figured it was a safe bet that he barely lasted past the greeting before he started to wonder whether bogging dignitaries while you were on their territory was worth the political fallout.

Sarah might have been on home ground, but what should have been a five minute update on crop yields from a minor administrator had turned into an hour of excruciating detail on agriculture and weather patterns. She may have had limited knowledge on farming, but it wasn’t difficult to determine that the man didn’t know what he was talking about. In the end she had cut him off in midstream and walked out before her somewhat unstable magic considered him a threat and jettisoned him from the room forceably, which could have been problematic as he had his back to a balcony in a room that was several storeys above ground level.

A quick word with Bishop after she had detached herself from the kingdom's most annoying bureaucrat and she was not surprised to learn that the man had been promoted diagonally throughout various administration areas until he was at a level that was so far beyond his competence as to be laughable. She didn’t know if the verbal diarrhoea was a deliberate cover or if he actually thought he was helping. She pinched the bridge of her nose, hoping to stave off a headache and made a mental note to find a better fit for the man.

“I’m going to hit something that isn’t a staff member.” Sarah thumped her forehead against Bishop’s shoulder in frustration. If Jareth had had a morning like hers, he’d be a ball of barely repressed fury when he got home. “Can you find Rook and get her to distract him when he gets back?”

As Bishop left, Sarah entered the training room and headed for the heavy bags. It wasn’t something she’d worked with before but she didn’t trust herself around others at the moment.

“Might I be of assistance?”

Pushing her sweaty hair out of her eyes, Sarah looked up at the blonde woman that had approached her. She was as tall and broad as Gan and Eero, with a pleasant open face. If Sarah remembered correctly, her name was Cressida.

“Your hands are a mess,” Cressida tutted in concern. “May I?”

Sarah nodded and watched mutely as the woman carefully examined her hands, hissing as she licked the knuckles and healed her grazes. Cressida then deftly wrapped Sarah’s hands before fastening a set of gloves. “That’s better. Now let’s work on your technique.”

While healing via fluid transfer was still a little strange to Sarah, she greatly appreciated Cressida’s assistance in helping her to hit the bag without doing herself further damage. As she worked through another combination of strikes, dancing back from the bag’s swing, Sarah wondered how Jareth day was going.
