Sarah wasn’t certain what she had expected to find when she entered the library. There was a small niggle of doubt that she’d be walking in to find her husband in a compromising position. With all of the possibilities running through her mind, she was still unprepared for the scene that greeted her.

Sarah had no idea that Jareth had ever seen a beanbag, yet he and Rook were sprawled across a couple of the chairs, quietly using obscenities as endearments the way they usually did. Jareth was sporting his preferred informal ensemble of breeches and shirt, where Rook had divested herself of her coat of many weapons, but retained her usual all black tee and leggings. While the now polychromatic blue hair hanging over her eyes was delightfully cheerful and her tongue was poking out in concentration as she worked, Rook still appeared decidedly withdrawn. As she gesticulated to make a point, Jareth gently caught her hand and ran his fingers along her wrist to create a rainbow cascade of splashes that spiralled up her arm. A slight smile played across her face as she examined the results and they tweaked the patterns in accordance to what sounded to Sarah like soft growls.

It wasn’t the odd choice of seating that shocked Sarah. The floor around them was littered with tiny colourful goblins.

Sarah mused that the only way it could have been weirder is if they’d decided to completely embrace the seventies and had gone full disco. She shut down that line of thought before it gave Jareth ideas. While she was certain he would look fabulous, she was more than happy to consign that unfortunate period of Above fashion to the bog of eternal stench.

“Care to join us?” Jareth didn’t bother looking up, his fingers almost a blur as another goblin quickly took shape.

“You can crochet?”

“Yes.” Sarah blinked while doing a credible impression of a fish out of water. “Do close your mouth, dear.”

Sarah walked over to pick up one of the amigurumi goblins. With its black bead eyes, teeny horns and saucepan helmet, it was adorable. She looked down at the vast array of toys and noticed that they weren’t just different colours, but different designs. Each one was a perfect representation of one of the castle horde she saw every day.

She was so distracted by the craftwork on display that she had completely missed Bishop removing his coat, vest and rolling up his sleeves, so she was startled when he dropped into a spare beanbag. He offered her a look of apology before quietly accepting a hook and ball of yarn from Rook to start work on a tiny goblin of his own.

Sarah wasn’t quite sure how to process her day, but with a sigh of resignation she decided to just go with the flow and took a seat beside Jareth. She looked in confusion at the craft implements he’d handed her. “Could someone teach me how to crochet?”
